Aswan is Egypt’s southernmost City. The City is located at the first of six cataracts on The Nile. The Nile widens in Aswan which is a blessing as this is where the SAHARA DESERT meets the Nile, it is so picturesque, snippets of greenery and then the golden desert hills.
In Ancient and Modern times it has been considered the gateway to Africa. In Ancient times due to its location it was Egypt’s main defence against southern invasion. Also Aswan is know to this for its quarries for granite, in Ancient times the quarries of Aswan supplied all the stones for the great monuments all over Egypt.
You can visit THE GREAT TEMPLE OF ISIS at Philae its on The ISLAND OF AGILKIA, it is one if the temples that had to be saved from the waters of the annual floods so it has been relocated but still close to the original location. You take a motor boat ride out to it, it is beautiful and peaceful, you can enjoy the all-embracing Mother Energy of Isis.
Aswan HIGH DAME was built to stop the flooding of the land, as a result we now have LAKE NASSER, the largest manmade lake in the world, you can sail on Lake Nasser from Aswan to ABU SYMBOL to see the two great temples carved into rock there, Abu Symbol is breath taking, there are other temples to visit on your journey on the lake. You can travel by road to Abu Symbol, it is a 3 to 4 hour drive which usually starts around 6am. The temples were completed around 1206 BC by Ramses ll.
Aswan is home to the Nubian Culture, as you move around Aswan you will see the integration of the colourful culture of Nubia and the Egyptians it brings Aswan alive. there is the beautiful NUBIAN MUSEUM to visit, which displays many artefacts of the Nubian life. There are many markets to visit also selling NUBIAN HAND MADE CRAFTS AND SPICES and many more things.
ELEPHANTINE ISLAND, home to the temples to the god KHNUM the ram headed god, his wife SATIS, and his daughter ANUKIS. At this temple you will find amongst many other things a beautiful NILEMETER dated back to the Roman era. It was used to measure the rising water leading up to the flood.
